Los avances tecnológicos que hicieron su tímida aparición durante las últimas décadas del siglo XX y que continúan perfeccionándose a lo largo de este siglo XXI, han venido acompañados de un nuevo corpus teórico y de una nueva forma de ver la profesión docente. Conceptos como sociedad de la información y del conocimiento, economía del conocimiento y capital intelectual, han entrado a formar parte de la investigación educativa y, por tanto, de la práctica profesional. En este sentido, la educación musical ha presenciado cambios en la forma de entender su proceso de enseñanza/aprendizaje para adaptarse a la Sociedad del Conocimiento.

Scholars have acknowledged customer knowledge management (CKM) as a key strategic resource for improving innovation and supporting long-term customer relationship management. This study provides a deeper understanding of the internal antecedents of business innovation capacity overcoming previous approaches. A model that had not previously been tested was used to analyse the role of customer collaboration and CKM – measured as a second-order construct – in innovation processes and marketing results. It is generally agreed that the two main functions of universities are to transmit high level knowledge and to produce new knowledge. For centuries, these two functions were performed in a context in which only a small share of the relevant age cohort attended higher education institutions. After the Second World War, this context changed radically and higher education began to face more or less continuous growth. This has led to the situation that, in the developed economies, more than 40 per cent of the younger generation now attend third-level institutions (cf. Teichler, 2000).

Academic capitalism is currently a widely studied topic amongst higher education scholars, especially in the United States. This paper demonstrates that the theory of academic capitalism also provides a fruitful perspective for analysing the restructuring of Finnish higher education since the 1990s, although with reservations.
